jewelry price guess?
I got a beautiful necklace for my birthday from my father. He said it had a diamond cut white gold chain, and it has a circular amethyst gem at the bottom (the gem is probably about 1/3 of a centimeter in diameter). I know it is all real. I need to know how much it costs because I would like to buy one for my daughter, but have semi-limited funds. Anyone have a guess?
Um, it’s very difficult to price jewelry. Often times, jewelers have a gigantic markup (hence why every jewelry store has perpetual “closing out sales”.
Diamonds don’t have a standard price. You need to consider the Cs (cut, carot, color and clarity). A shotty cut job will drop the price significantly. Your color is rated on a scale – clear being highest then yellow, brown and grey. A clear color is then graded on clearness. There are a lot of steps in pricing a diamond. And then, if you go through a company that buys them in bulk, you’ll get a cheaper price. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond
Your best bet would be to shop around. Try different jewelers. Go to large department stores. Costco buys bulk jewelry so they are significantly cheaper.
Realistically, no one can give you a price. You have way too many variables.
You didn’t mention the carat of the gold. The type of chain. The length of chain.
Amethyst also varies in price and is done according to color and clarity.
If you could, ask your dad.
