How much are precious stones worth?
Does anybody have a source explaining the value of gemstones?
I understand that Diamonds are of course top of the list but what about things like Emeralds, Rubies and Amethysts?
Sometimes you will see a piece of jewellery with a stone in and it’s quite pricey – but hard to tell if it’s the value of the stone you are mainly paying for or just the the precious metal it’s set in…
I recently bought a sterling silver charm with a genuine amethyst in and though i’m chuffed that I got it so cheap (£5) i’m now wondering how ‘precious’ these stones really are…
(The Amethyst is ‘oval cut, 0.75 carat and measures 7x5mm)
