Can hydrogen peroxide be used to clean jewelry?
I have an 14k gold amethyst and diamond ring and Im wondering if I can use hydrogen peroxide to clean it, because thats about all I have right now. Is there any chance of the ring becoming damaged or anything? I would be submerging it iin the hydrogen peroxide
H2O2 is not a good choice because it isn’t a particularly good cleaner. Your first choice would be Isopropyl alcohol — about $1.00 at Walgreens. Second choice would be ordinary liquid dish detergent. It is designed to cut grease (such as body oil and hand lotion) which is likely what is making your ring look dull.
Just put a little liquid detergent in a basin of warm water, soak your ring for a few minutes, then clean it gently with the water and an old toothbrush.
Rinse thoroughly and your ring will look good until you can improve it further with alcohol.
