How I can change my picture on the screen because now only shows a black image?

I try to change my picture on the screen, but not I can. It shows nothing but a black image. When I try to change I can choose the image you want to show but when you click OK it does nothing. I tried to put any image, click OK, then returned and tried to put a picture, but still does not work. I even re-install Yahoo! Messenger. Nothing works.
