Unidentified dinosaur film – anyone know what film it is?
I remember seeing when young, a film with dinosaurs set in a volcano. There’s good guys and bad guys go in, and chase scenes in the volcano and in a valley with giant bone ribcages, there’s headhunters/cannibals including a woman who ends up joining the good guys, and it ends with a hilariously bad scene where they hatch a “baby Tyrannosaurus Rex” which is clearly a crocodile. Anyone know what film this was?
I’ve read your description several times, and am not positive that this is your film though it sounds very much like Irwin Allen’s film version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel, “The Lost World”. Of course, depending on how long ago you saw the film, it could be one of the made-for-TV versions.
The Lost World (1960)

IMDB synopsis:
The boisterous, arrogant Professor Challenger, a reputed biologist and anthropologist, dares the London Zoological Society to mount an expedition to verify his spectacular claim, without physical proof, that his previous expedition to the Amazonian basin found live dinosaurs. Apart from him and his socialite counterpart, Professor Summerlee, it consists of experienced discoverer Lord Roxbury, the young reporter Ed Malone, and Jennifer Holmes, Malone’s news agency’s boss’s daughter, essentially as conditions for putting up the money. In Brazil, they are joined by Jennifer’s brother David and local guide Manuel Gomez. They soon discover dinosaurs and even giant spiders but lose their helicopter and thus are desperate for a way down from the isolated plateau.
I suppose it depends on how recent a film you saw. Is it an older film or something more recent? “The Lost World” has been filmed a number of times. Before 1960, there was a Silent version. In the 1960 version:
* Dinosaurs are lizards with fins and horns stuck on them because Irwin Allen couldn’t afford stop-motion work.
* Jill St. John’s character has a pink poodle.
* Vitina Marcus plays a “jungle girl” type, who is pursued through a giant bone ribcage by Hedison~until the passage is blocked by an enormous spider that is hanging upside down from its web.
* Natives live inside a volcanic mountain, where there is a lava pool in which lives a gargantuan lizardy dinosaur that the natives believe is some sort of god.
* I do believe that the egg that hatches reveals a baby croc/gator (whichever) standing in for a T Rex. (I’m sort of shady with that memory, but it “feels” right.)
