The shell that i burn incense on needs maintenance!?
I have this shell that you burn incense or something on and it is glued on and i can’t get it off. I didn’t burn incense sticks, i burned this concoction my friends told me. You mix Aloes wood powder, benzoin sumatra resin incense, Rich dark copal resin incense, honey amber resin incense, and one drop of cedar wood oil. Then place it on a slab of charcoal and let it burn. Now i have the problem because all this resin and burnt charcoal is literally glued on to the shell! I was thinking about getting one of those grill scrapers but we only have one and that’s for food. I’d really like to not ruin the shell. Any ideas?
Yep – boiling is what’s going to take it off.
If you still have some residue left then take some fine sandpaper and gently sand the rest of it off – very carefully. Don’t use the grill scraper, you’ll break your shell.
In the future, put some sea salt or sand underneath the charcoal pellet before dumping the incense mix on there. The resin will stick to any surface. Me – I don’t generally worry too much about this stuff. I have all sorts of bowls and shells with years of buildup stuck to them. But *I* am a slob. You really don’t want to be like me. I almost had to throw away a lovely silver chalice once because it had 2 inches of mold in the bottom. A normal person would keep their ritual items clean though. It is the proper thing to do.
