Need a organic rescue for beautiful jade plant.?
I have a Very Large beautiful Jade plant. It’s dropping leaves like crazy. I keep it on the dry side and in a south facing window. I have noticed very tiny brown specks on the under side of some leaves and very fine spider web like threads at the base of some branches. I have researched and think I might have spider mites. Does anyone have any organic solutions to my problem? Any other suggestions to my problem? I do see new growth but the plant is starting to look bare.
More likely you have scale. wash the plant gently with soapy water and a soft tooth brush to get the scale/mites off along with their honey dew that will eventually cause a black mold all over the plant and kill it. next get some dormant oil and a sprayer, prepare according to the package. take the plant outside (this is messy so you do not want to do this in the house) and spray the dormant oil on ALL surfaces from soil line to the top of the plants. being sure you get under the leaves and branches. the dormant oil will smother any remaining bugs that washing did not kill/knock off.
next give the plant s good watering with an organic fertilizer such as kelp and than treat as you normally would and it should recover. it will take several months for recovery.
Oh yeah, make sure you don’t have other plants in the house with the same problem. If so, treat them as well with soapy water washing and dormant oil. Otherwise, they will infect the jade again.
I had a combination of almost freezing weather and scale nearly kill a jade plant I have had for almost 30 years. But after a year of the plant looking really bad it did come back and is now a big healthy plant
