Question’s about some amethyst/citrine minerals?
I have 2 Very Large rocks. one has a yellow brown looking crystals all on the outside and possibly on the inside, and the other is deep deep Purple.. If i had to guess the one with yellow brown crystals probably weighs 150 lb and the one with purple 30-40lb. Just wondering what direction i should go in…
I’m guessing from your question that you’re wondering what they might be worth?
They are classed as semiprecious gemstones, so even a top-notch specimen isn’t worth a whole lot of money…nothing like a diamond. However, a nice looking stone is worth money to a collector. If it’s high enough quality, they can be cut and polished and placed in rings.
Look for a jewellery maker in your area and see if they’re interested.
On another note…do some reading on rocks and minerals…find out what the host rock is. Diamond comes in almost every color of the rainbow…but is normally only found in one or two host rocks.
PS. The two sound like quartz to me, which with the inclusion of metallic salts change color and are known as the names you gave. The yellow brown one could also be corundum, which is quite a bit harder than quart and worth a bit more money. Quarts is a 7 on the moe’s hardness scale. Corundum is a 9. Diamond is the hardest at 10.
