Have you ever found fossils at Pit 11 at Mazon Creek?
How did you go about collecting them? Were there a lot of nodules on the surface? Where were they–along washes, eroded areas, or somewhere else? I was there for the first time yesterday and I feel like I missed some big secret gathering technique, what with not being allowed to dig. Found some small ones though, as it had rained recently.
I was once traveling to St Louis and stopped at an area near Terre Haute. Indiana that had Mazon Creek Fossils.
You have to split the nodules open with a rock hammer.
I am in Connecticut now, There are only a few fossil collecting places.
I have to drive a hundred miles to get area in New York to collect fossils.
