How long does it take to get nice abs/pecs?
I ran track all through high school but got out of shape over the last few years in college and I’m looking to get back to where I used to be. I was wondering how long it takes to get decent looking abs and pecs and what workouts I should do to get the quickest results. I tried searching online but the only things that I found seemed to be stereotypical infomercial products which I am not interested in. I am hoping to get in shape before the fall semester but I’m not sure if that is a reasonable goal or not.

To begin with, focus primarily on exercises that adhere to the three traditional compound movements. Pushing, pulling, and leg pressing. These are the movements that will allow you to put the most stress (lift the most weight) on your muscles, and you will therefore see the most results by doing variations of these movements. In the beginning of your training, your body will see that you are beginning to use your muscle energy in a much greater amount than usual, and so you will see results quite quickly. You may then come to a plateau of progress, at which point it may help to either increase reps or increase weight. Are you looking for muscular endurance? strength? stamina? Weight loss? Muscle gain? All of those will determine the amount of weight and number of reps that you choose to do for your workouts. However sticking to the three main compound movements is first and foremost.
